About us

What we do

The Aotearoa Youth Leadership Institute is working to train and inspire a new generation of leaders.  Our programmes are open to any young people from Aotearoa - that is, any young person who resides here, or people from Aotearoa now based elsewhere in the globe.

We want to give you the opportunity to push your boundaries, and the programmes we run reflect this.  We aim to:

  1. Redefine leadership as a skill area anyone can embrace and develop

  2. Encourage young people to think critically about the world and their values - and, most importantly, to think about how those values then intersect with their identities and plans for their futures

  3. Provide experiences with the potential to be trajectory-changing and drastically impact young Kiwis' future contributions

Our International Programme

Each year we send teams to international conferences discussing the world's most pressing issues - hosted by organisations from the UN to the OECD.  Our delegates have the chance to see global decisions being made and rub shoulders with global leaders in business, trade, campaigning, diplomacy and academia.

All our delegates receive full preparatory training from the Institute - including an in-person weekend intensive - and participate in a supervised research fellowship.  After returning, we encourage them to contribute their new skills and knowledge to an organisation in their community, to build a stronger youth volunteer sector.
